There are many products to choose from for your driveway, but only 2 "permanent" options; Concrete and Asphalt.
Cost is usually the biggest factor to consider for the average consumer. As a rule of thumb Asphalt Paving is usually 30% less expensive than concrete ( could vary on each project ) However, just like anything else in life, there are pros and cons to each. A few things to consider when trying to decide:
Any future plans to build upon the driveway in the future? If so, concrete is a more ridgid material and suitable for building upon.
Snow Factor! If your home tends to recieve a lot of accumilating snow, then you may want to consider asphalt. The dark color of asphalt will retain heat better than the light color of concrete which will help the snow dissipate faster.
TAXES!!!! A word that no one likes. Some counties will raise your property taxes when you pour concrete. It is universally considered a permanent structure. Check with your local building authorities to find out if you will be affected.
Just like any other large purchase, research what will serve your best purpose. We always advise our customer to look at it as "Time vs Money" How much time will you get out of a product vs how much that product will cost compared to other options.
